Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating controlled micro-injuries to the skin using a device equipped with fine needles. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural healing response, triggering collagen and elastin production.

We use SkinPen as our trusted product for this service. SkinPen is the gold standard of microneedling and the first FDA approved device that has a patented mechanism that ensures accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Microneedling can be uncomfortable if you opt out of the numbing cream.

  • Patients of any skin type are candidates for treatment as long as you do not have any active infections or skin lesions. Treatments are also not recommended for pregnant women or individuals using certain acne medications.

  • We use the SkinPen device to complete the procedure. After microneedling, we used platelet rich plasma or a vitamin-infused serum to boost your end results and make your skin even more gorgeous.

  • The most important thing to focus on to prepare for a successful microneedling appointment, is ensuring your skin is in a ‘calm’ state. This means you aren’t using a lot of products to treat your skin. We will ask you to clean your face before your appointment.

    1. Avoid exfoliating in the days leading up to the treatment. If you use acne medications, try to stop using them in the weeks leading up to your appointment.

    2. Avoid topical retinoids and antibiotics for at least a week before your appointment. Also avoid taking over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen.

    3. Wear sunscreen on your face daily during the weeks leading up to your appointment.

    4. Avoid shaving, waxing or any form of hair removal products on your skin during the week before your treatment.

  • Immediately after your session, you will notice that the skin appears bright and red. For this reason, we do not recommend planning any significant events right after your appointment. Downtime varies but generally you may experience mild redness and mild swelling for about 24 hours after your procedure.

    • During the first few days post-treatment, please avoid makeup or skincare. We will send you home with skincare products you can use to decrease redness and dryness.

    • Avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or using exfoliants for 1 week.

    • Apply sunscreen daily

  • Full results will be visible after your individual treatment plan is complete. This usually involves at least 3 microneedling sessions 4-6 weeks apart, plus any other treatments or products your provider recommends. However you will start to notice differences in your skin about 2 days post treatment.

We highly recommend taking pictures to look back through and see the changes in your skin!

  • Results may vary based on the severity of the skin concern, its location, and the treatment plan used.

The skin may continue increased collagen production for 3 to 6 months after Microneedling treatment. This is why we recommend purchasing a package of 3 sessions, so we can continue to increase your collagen production on a consistent basis.

We also highly recommend pairing this treatment with Biojuve skincare, enhancing the treatments benefits. For more information about Biojuve, please call us or visit one of our locations.

  • You can go back to work or school after the procedure if you’re comfortable. It’s best to let your skin heal before applying makeup. However, once the appropriate time has passed, camouflaging makeup can help disguise the redness as it dissipates.

Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so be sure to apply sunscreen. Still, it’s recommended that you wait one week before exposing your skin to sunlight and harsh chemicals.
